Well, as we all waited and anticipated
Mary Lynn
and the gangs new show, it finally arrived. And
the critics just couldn't wait a couple of episodes into the series before
putting in their wicked two cents.
As I'm sure most of you who already enjoy Mary
Lynn's rather unique style of comedy, found
"The Downer Channel" a rather refreshingly funny showcase in
humor. Myself, I thought the skit of people talking on their cellular phones
while driving was pure comic genius! But then, what do I know?
Here are what others had to say:
The
Detroit Free Press - "Bad sense of comic timing"
Pop
Matters - "Fear of being funny"
The
Beacon Journal - "Sends comedy downward"
Not everyone had something bad to say about about
the show however. David
Levy of Yahoo said, "The rapid-fire pace was refreshing and the
bulk of the material was cleverly assembled."
You can read all of David's
Review as well as reply to his statements about the show at "TV
Barn's Message Board" at Yahoo.com.
I am also concerned about the immediate future of
the show. After only a few weeks running, they replaced last Tuesday's
airing for another half hour of "Spy-TV." This is a little disconcerting!
That, and the official "The
Downer Channel" website is slowly being disassembled. What
used to be a page consisting of flash, graphics and the theme song, has been
replaced with the "Carsey-Werner-Mandabach"
main page. And that doesn't look good for the show! In the
meantime, here is kind of a back door link, to get ya around what is left in
the meantime.
